Biography

Dr. Maryam Mobed-Miremadi is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at Santa Clara University. She earned her B.Eng., M.Eng., and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from McGill University. She began her engineering career as a chemical process engineer at SNC-Lavalin (now AtkinsRéalis) before pursuing graduate studies at McGill University's Artificial Cells and Organs Research Centre, where she investigated membrane-based biomaterials and artificial cell technologies.

She held research and process development positions at Abaxis (now part of Zoetis), Agilent Technologies, Boston Scientific, and WaferGen, contributing to the development of technologies in genomics, diagnostics, medical devices, and biomanufacturing. Prior to joining Santa Clara University, she served as the Kordestani Chair in BioEngineering at San José State University. At Santa Clara University, she has developed new undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratory experiences while mentoring undergraduate and graduate student researchers in the Biomaterials Characterization Laboratory. Her research focuses on the simulation, optimization, and statistical validation of multiscale sustainable soft and hard biomaterial systems. Her research has been supported by the National Science Foundation (CBET) and the CSU Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology (CSUPERB).
